What is a Subdomain

What is a Subdomain, A subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain, used to assign a related unique name to a particular department or service.
For example, post.???.com or sales.???.com/ in this way a number of related topics could be categorised, and only accessed inside that particular subdomain.

Internet scammers use sub-domains, the scam is called ‘phishing‘ most understand this as online fishing, criminal fraudsters search the www with a hook just as deadly as hooks used to catch fish, criminal fraudsters use phishing techniques to catch sensitive information such as usernames, passwords or credit card details, by posing as a well known trustworthy electronic enquiry.

The word phishing is a new word, created from the two words fishing and phreaks. Some of the earliest phone hackers were known as phreaks. phone phreaking YouTube vidio below.

What is Domain parking

What is Domain parking

Domain parking refers to the registration of a domain name without hosting the domain or have any services such as a website or eMail etc.
This may have been done with a view to reserving the domain name for future development, or to protect the good name of a similar sounding domain against the possibility of cybersquatting, ie : someone may try to register www.Google.me/ and attempt to pass themselves off as www.Google.com/ or having aquired a similar name, may attempt to intimidate by threatening to sell the name to a competitor.
One may also have a number of similar sounding domains, ie :
www.avrolancastercrewmemorial.co.uk/ and www.avrolancastercrewmemorial.uk/ and have them all permanently redirected to the main site that is a .com/  ie : www.avrolancastercrewmemorial.com/

Domain parking may be done to reserve a good domain name for use at some other time, you can register a name to prevent anyone else claiming the good domain name.
Many web site developers simply register domain names similar to their main website domain name, simply to prevent others creating a similar site and cashing in by taking internet browser search traffic intended for the developers website.
AvroLancasterCrewMemorial.com/  is a good example, if this .com/ name had not taken the .co.uk/ and the .uk/ URLs it would be posible for any one else to do so, and by so doing could just sit back and see if the .com/ became successful enough to ether cash in on the hard work of the .com/ version, or put them up for sale and create a mini bidding war over the names.
Also by parking a good domain name means you can have the domain point to an advertising website page, to earn some cash and at the same time tell visitors the domain may be for sale, this will provide a very good temporary page that can easily pay for the up keep of the name while you decide what to do next.

The field of domain name parking is extensive, please find this link: Parking/Domain it is a very informative site.

What is a Domain Name

What is a Domain Name

This article explains what an Internet Domain name is, how one works, and how network address and domain names fit together On-Line.
What is a Domain Name
Do·Main-Name, domain-name is a noun : domain-names, is the plural of domain : domain is from Latin nōmen, literally meaning “name”, the part of a network address that identifies it belonging to a particular domain.
Domain names can be used to identify one or more IP addresses. For example, the domain name microsoft.com represents dozens of IP addresses. Domain names are also used to identify web pages www.example.com/

Every domain name or web-site has an end, ie : .com/ .co.uk/ .info/ etc. this indicates which level domain it’s name belongs to.
There are limited numbers of specific domain name extensions (ending’s) please see a very small number of examples below :-

.gov/ = Government / .edu/ = Educational institutions/
.org/ = Organizations/ (nonprofit) .mil/ = Military/
.com/ = commercial business/ .co.uk/ = United Kingdom/
.net/ = Network organizations/ .ca/ = Canada/ .th/ = Thailand/

See below a number of live web-site domain-name (web site address) extension examples  :-

www.boxmonitoredalarms.eu/  www.wikipedia.org/
www.dawntrade.co.uk/  www.marstoncourt.com/
www.ukdomain.info/  gmtimepieces.net/
boxsecurity.ltd.uk/  disappearhere.so/

Other dedicated extensions are available for more specific web-sites, see a number of examples below.

.mob/ = for mobile sites/ .travel/ = for travel sites/ .jobs/ =  for job sites etc.

Also because the internet is based on IP addresses, not just domain names, every web server requires a Domain Name System (DNS) the server will translate domain names into IP addresses, what is an IP address?

DNS –  (Domain Name System) will translate the numerical or binary IP address ie: (47.113.49.87)  into the human-friendly website addresses like : disappearhere.so/
Most computers will have dynamic IP addresses, numerical IPv4 = 32 decimal (base-10) 4 groups of 4, =  (132.89.673.87) or a binary IPv6 = 128 bits – 8 groups of 4, hexadecimal (base-16) = (2001:cdba:0000:0000:0000:0000:3257:9652) , but In some cases, a whole house or office will share the same IP address.
